Below are some quotes about the show:

Austin, internationally recognized for its trend-setting creative culture, is now at the vanguard of an emerging Figurative Art Renaissance. For over a century realism was sidelined by modern and conceptual approaches but in a world of alternative facts, realist figurative art is finding new audiences as a new wave of artists are transforming classical art training into a new realism movement. The show will showcase Austin’s best figurative artist and their newest, most exciting work, including painting and sculpture in a variety of mediums.

“We’re cultivating realist art in Austin, Texas, and redefining it with a broader brush.” -Jennifer Balkan.

“This emerging realism movement is really exciting and the REFIGURED: RADICAL REALISM show highlights local artists at its forefront. The foundational training and technical mastery at the movement’s core will definitely be on display in this exhibition.” -says painter and Atelier Dojo co-founder, Denise M. Fulton.

“We are honored to see the exhibition REFIGURED: RADICAL REALISM programmed into the Dougherty Arts Center’s 40th birthday celebration year. An exhibition underlining the power of strong arts education is a perfect way to celebrate the DAC’s contributions as arts education leaders.” -Aterlier Dojo co-founder and UT professor, Karen Maness.

“As an artist, I am thrilled to not only experience these different voices in this new movement of contemporary realism but to also be part of the dialogue.” -Karen Offutt
